چکیده

Wind turbines are subject to variable aerodynamic loads and extreme environmental conditions. Wind turbine components fail frequently, resulting in high maintenance costs. For this reason, gearbox condition monitoring becomes important since gearboxes are among the wind turbine components with the most frequent failure observations. The major challenge here is the detection of faults under the time varying operating conditions prevailing in wind turbine systems. This paper analyses wind turbine gearbox vibration data using the empirical mode decomposition method and the statistical discipline of outlier analysis for the damage detection of gearbox tooth faults. The instantaneous characteristics of the signals are obtained with the application of the Hilbert transform. The lowest level of fault detection, the threshold value, is considered and Mahalanobis squared-distance is calculated for the novelty detection problem.

Vibration-based Fault Detection of Wind Turbine Gearbox using Empirical Mode Decomposition Method

Vibration based monitoring techniques are widely adopted for monitoring the condition of rotating machinery. However, in the case of wind turbines the measured vibration is complex due to the high number of vibration sources and modulation phenomenon. Signals are generated by tooth meshing, shaft rotation, gearbox resonance vibration signatures and a substantial amount of noise. Therefore, extr...

Use of the Teager-Kaiser energy operator for condition monitoring of a wind turbine gearbox

This paper deals with the condition monitoring of a wind turbine gearbox under varying operating conditions, which cause nonstationarity. The gearbox vibration signals are decomposed into a set of monocomponent signals using the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) method. The Teager-Kaiser Energy Operator (TKEO) in combination with an energy separation method is also presented as an alternative ...

Measurement and Analysis of Current Signals for Gearbox Fault Recognition of Wind Turbine

This paper presents a novel solution method based on measurement and analysis of current signals for gearbox fault recognition of wind turbine. A gearbox with typical oil-leakage fault is purposely made. The oil-leakage gearbox and a normal gearbox are used as experimental models to measure and analyze the current signals of generator. This work employs wavelet transform (WT), empirical mode de...

Wind Turbine Gearbox Condition Monitoring with AAKR and Moving Window Statistic Methods

Condition Monitoring (CM) of wind turbines can greatly reduce the maintenance costs for wind farms, especially for offshore wind farms. A new condition monitoring method for a wind turbine gearbox using temperature trend analysis is proposed. Autoassociative Kernel Regression (AAKR) is used to construct the normal behavior model of the gearbox temperature. With a proper construction of the memo...

An Enhanced Empirical Wavelet Transform for Features Extraction from Wind Turbine Condition Monitoring Signals

Feature extraction from nonlinear and non-stationary (NNS) wind turbine (WT) condition monitoring (CM) signals is challenging. Previously, much effort has been spent to develop advanced signal processing techniques for dealing with CM signals of this kind. The Empirical Wavelet Transform (EWT) is one of the achievements attributed to these efforts. The EWT takes advantage of Empirical Mode Deco...
